Yami Vs. Whitnee

Description

Here is a picture that I did of Whitnee Squirrel (the "T.U.F.F. Puppy" version of my original character) facing off against her villainous twin sister, Yami Squirrel, in a heated duel. I was in the mood for drawing a picture that would involve both ninja squirrel characters being able to fight each other while using their usual weapons. For this picture I've done, I was able to draw Yami trying to attack Whitnee with her katana while Whitnee is able to block each attack by using her pair of sais. As you can probably tell, Whitnee does not actually want to fight her sister at all, and she continuously tries to convince Yami to stop trying to get revenge for the scar on Yami's face that was her own dang fault; Because she is such a villainous and evil-minded gal who was trained as a ninja by the same sensei, Yami is never able to listen to twin sister anymore, and she'd never give up on getting her revenge on Whitnee until she's able to defeat her once and for all. As I was coloring the picture in, I was able to use a dark red texture for the background that suits the mood of the fight going on. The picture turned out really nice after being completed, and it's sure to please my friends and everyone else as well.

As I look at this work; I am reminded on how often you draw and that your cartoony style has it's own sense of appeal to bring your characters to life.
With the fight going on between these two, you really do feel as if these two are truly clashing with one another. From Yami's lunging with her katana and her evil look; to Whitnee trying to block with her sai and looking very worried.
You're definitely working hard to improve your style and I do applaud your efforts.
A few areas to work on (I know I always need to work on these) are the hands. How Yami is holding her katana doesn't suggest she is about to cut Whitnee down. The sword at the bottom of the hilt looks like she's holding at the bottom. I suggest getting the hands closer together or making the hilt longer for her to grab.
I do feel weight and pressure going against Whitnee. Yet it doesn't feel forceful enough like Yami's ready to cut her down. And how Whitnee is backing up doesn't suggest applied force. Her right leg sticking out would definitely throw her off balance. I think both legs should be bent; or the right leg should be brought behind Whitnee and kneeling lower than the other one to suggest Yami applying force onto Whitnee.
I like how both sais block; but the top of the blade looks like Whitnee would use one of them to block it too. Might make it seem a bit more dynamic.
Overall it's still a nice pic and it's nice to see you improving with your form and style. Working on your posing is always a nice step towards giving us real feeling behind the piece.
